Zoom Meetings Wednesday 5/11/22 6:00 pm and Sunday 5/15/22 after the conclusion of the service – use the Sunday service zoom link.
Our fellowship is considering significant additions within our beloved community. We want your thoughts and input.
The first is adding a .25 ministerial position for the 2022/23 service year.
The Board has discussed and shared in previous newsletters the benefits we see in having a UUA minister leading our services once per month and helping with pastoral care.
The Board appreciates that so far over 60% of those who pledged for the coming year have increased their pledges. We see this as an affirmation of the need to hire and fill this position.
The Board has contacted the Rev. Sarah Schurr, our Pacific Western Region, Congregational Life Staff person, and she has given us the information necessary to proceed should we decide to hire a .25 ministerial person. Hiring through the UUA is streamlined in that many of the HR requirements, background checks, ordination certification, etc., are completed before a congregation receives a list of potential candidates. For a lay lead community, this is very helpful.
Our second decision to discuss prior to the Annual Meeting is the adoption of the 8 th Principle as requested by our Social Justice committee.
Rev. Justin Almeda spoke about the 8th principle in his sermon to us last fall. Here is the wording:
“The 8th Principle affirms and promotes journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse, multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
If you have questions or thoughts regarding the .25 ministerial position and/or the 8 th Principle, please attend the Wednesday zoom at 6:00 pm. We will have a similar hybrid discussion after the service on 5/15/22 about 11:00 am.
